Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs)

Why DEAs

We are a recruitment and training organisation.  This has lead our team to explore training in all aspects.  We are now proud to be certified by our governing body ABBE to offer a DEA Diploma.    This is the first of many training courses we will be offering in the future.

The Course

The Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) Diploma is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ), which is competence based and achieved by way of:

  • 3 day training course
  • Distance Learning
  • Production of a Portfolio containing 5 Case Studies
  • Assessment and Feedback
  • External ABBE Exam
  • Evaluation and Qualification (subject to course work standard)

The course is available to both non industry experienced and experienced individuals who wish to train in this field.

During the 3 day “classroom” course we will teach you how to Energy Rate a domestic property, introduce you to the RdSAP (Reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure) methodology.

We will show you how to identify types of traditional and non-traditional construction, property types, age bandings, insulation and water & space heating.

During the course you will attend a “live” property for an invaluable practical training session on information gathering and assessing.

You will learn how to use the Software: input the information and produce the EPC.

Analysis and discussion with the Tutor will follow giving you the opportunity to ask any relevant outstanding queries you may still have.

Distance Learning

Once you embark upon the distance learning aspect of the course, our Assessment Centre will:

  • Assist you in building a portfolio of evidence demonstrating that you can meet the standards required in every aspect of the profession.
  • Allocate a personal assessor to you, who will review your portfolio submissions, offering feedback and guidance to comply with the standards.
  • Direct you towards any additional training you might need.
  • Prepare you for the external exam, with sample questions and technical advice.
  • Answer technical queries either by telephone or online as swiftly as possible.

You’re Portfolio

You will produce 5 EPC case studies, with the supporting information showing the occupational competence required of a professional Domestic Energy Assessor.

These case studies will be submitted in turn, and will be produced in your own time, often completed around your existing work or family commitments.

There is no specific time frame for completing the work, this will depend upon the dedication and ability of each candidate, and will vary.

The course has been passed in less than 8 weeks by some while others have taken longer.

The ABBE syllabus also includes a Multiple Choice examination, consisting of 20 questions.
